Will and Marc do the double
It was a great weekend for the team at the British National Championships. Will Longden got things off to a flying start on Saturday night racing in the 4X.
He said: “I was feeling pretty good and felt confident after practice. The track was pretty tight though and I knew a good gate and first straight was going to be important.”
The final line up saw Dale Holmes, Scott Beaumont and Marc lining up on the inside gates with James Gould – a previous Junior National Champion – (and MBUK team rider) in gate four, he had a great night to make it to the final.
“I got the start I needed and just focused on the track rather than the other riders, it worked out pretty well for me as I took the win and the British 4X National Champion title. Things have really turned around for me since I started riding the Blur 4X, it’s an awesome little bike and it’s given me so much more confidence on the track,” said Will.
On Sunday morning there was a great feeling around the team pits and downhill practice went well in the morning.
Will had qualified second on the Friday so both Marc and Neil went off before him, leaving only Will and Steve Peat at the top of the hill.
Will said: “As I crossed the line I went into 5th place, I was a little disappointed until I looked up to see which riders were in 1st and 2nd Marc and Neil! It was a tense minute as we waited for Peaty to arrive, it looked like it was going to be very close until he slid out and crashed going through a ditch a hundred metres from the finish.”
Marc won the British Downhill Champion title and the team the double on a perfect weekend.
“Neil had his best ride of the season in second and finally got the luck he deserves to go with his undoubted ability,” said Will.
Well done boys!
