Now and again, BikeRadar receives details of some odd things, but absolutely nothing could prepare us for a cycling calendar featuring The Apprentice reality TV star, Alex Mills, posed naked over an upturned Trek.
The 23-year-old from Cardiff, who appeared the hit BBC show aired earlier this year, is the big act in the Willies and Wheels 2014 calendar, which was shot for a south Wales parental bereavement support charity called 2 Wish upon a Star.
Mills told BikeRadar, that his cheeky portrait was shot “very quickly, outside a church on a Sunday morning”.
It was very cold, he remembers.
Other shots from the calendar includes three men – Mills, is one of them again – fixing a puncture. All the photos were taken around Llantrisant and feature men aged 18 to 80. There’s even a bonus, if you can call it that, of outtakes.
The calendar has only just been publicised and Mills – a keen cyclist, who became known for his vampire-like looks after the Apprentice appearance – says he doesn’t know what the reaction is going to be. “Time will tell. I’ve no doubt about that,” he said.
His girlfriend wondered about the advisability of the calendar on aesthetic grounds. Mills said: “[When I told her] I was going to do a calendar, she said, ‘what, now?’ Shouldn’t I go to the gym a bit first was her first question, which was very lovely.
“I’m saving the pictures to create a Moonpig card for her mother for Christmas.”
The £10 calendar goes on sale on 1 December. All proceeds go towards 2 Wish upon a Star.
Last year Mills was part of a group that raised £15,000 for the charity by cycling to Taunton in Somerset and back.
