Bartoli retires, Beloki signs? Cooke and Wiggins for Revolution
Michele Bartoli has retired from racing aged 34. The last few seasons he has been dogged by injury and this has damaged his motivation. He won the World Cup back in 1997 and 1998, and on his day was one of the top classic riders of his generation. Injury has hampered his career over recent seasons and he has decided that it is unlikely he will ever be able to compete at the top level again, consequently he has decided not to continue with racing.
He has won over 50 races in his career and for the last season has ridden for Bjarne Riis’ Team CSC. He hopes to continue working for the team in a technical capacity.
Beloki to say yes to Saiz?
French sports paper L’equipe is reporting that Joseba Beloki could be returning to his erstwhile Directeur Sportif, Manolo Saiz, at the Spanish team Libert Seguros. Beloki had a terrible season in 2004 with French squad Brioches La Boulangere, after famously crashing in front of Lance Armstrong while descending in the 2003 Tour de France. Between 2001 and 2003 Beloki rode for Saiz’s hugely successful Once team – could a return to Saiz’s team trigger a return to form? We’ll have to wait for the 05 Tour to find out.
Nicole Cooke and Bradley Wiggins to Ride Revolution
The line-up of riders for Revolution 6 on the 4th December has been finalised, with the great news that Bradley Wiggins, Olympic Champion will once again take to the boards for the hugely successful Manchester event. Bradley will be riding all the endurance events on the night, but it’s going to be particularly good to see him and his Olympic team mate Rob Hayles together again in a top quality Madison…. let’s hope that Rob stays on his bike this time!
Cyclists needed for Oz world record
Record Breakers organisation are seeking adventurous cyclist to take on the cycling around the coast of Australia world record. The challenge is free in return for raising some funds for ‘Antics’ a charity which supports children affected by cancer.
The current record is held by a team of 8 from the UK, who completed the 14,494km route in 18 days 8 hours and 39 minutes! Part of the record is to visit the capital of every territory as well as following the coastal road around Australia.
You don’t need to find your own team of eight, as we can make up a team from solo cyclist. We are also very keen to find some females to create the first ever all girl team and a new category record for others to challenge in years to come.
