Some 4,444 riders have already signed up for this year's Tartu Rattamaraton, the Estonian event that claims to be the second largest mountain bike marathon in the world (after Norway's Birkebeinerrittet).

The event on 19 September has a choice of 89km or 40km routes, with the former being used for last year's European Marathon Championships. Riders set off from the southern town of Otepää and finish near Elva.

“Last year by the same time, 4,217 people had registered for the race, so there is clear growth in numbers," said race director Indrek Kelk. Further details can be found at www.tartumaraton.ee.
