Procycling’s readers select Saturday Night Fever star John Travolta to play Discovery boss Johan Bru
That seems to be the verdict of procycling.com readers who have selected the dancing Scientologist as the person most suitable to play the role of Discovery Channel team manager Johan Bruyneel in the upcoming movie adaptation of Lance Armstrong’s life.
Apart from the obvious similarity in looks of the two men (complete with widow’s peak and dimple in the chin), there are other clear comparisons to be made between the pair. In his former life as a pro rider Bruyneel wore the regulation tight-fitting kit, while Travolta, during his time as a dance sensation and pin-up, was known for favouring the most tight-fitting strides seen anywhere on the planet.
In addition, while Travolta is married to actor Kelly Preston, Bruyneel used to compete regularly against Irish cycling legend Sean Kelly. It’s uncanny, but true.
However, while Travolta has proved a clear winner of the popular vote, procycling still maintains that former England football legend David Platt remains the most suitable candidate to play Bruyneel in the mooted Lance movie. Not only do the pair look like they were separated at birth, but Platt also has a Belgian connection, having scored the unforgettable winning goal for England against Belgium in the 1990 World Cup.
To further Platty’s cause, we urge procycling‘s readers to Google his name and then deny that the former England captain’s clearly right to play the Bruyneel role.
