Two new UK road racing teams launched

Orbea-For Goodness Shakes! and ProBikeKit both aiming high

Orbea and For Goodness Shakes! are sponsoring a new UK road team

Two new UK road racing teams are set to hit the circuit in 2010: Orbea-For Goodness Shakes! and ProBikeKit.

The rider roster has yet to be confirmed for Orbea-For Goodness Shakes!, but the squad are aiming high.

“We’ve been working hard since July, negotiating with sponsors, planning and signing riders who will enable the team to gain results in the Premier Calendar, Tour Series (invitation permitting) and National Circuit Series in 2010,” said team manager James Whatling, who previously ran the BMC UK Racing squad.

“The UK road racing scene is set for its most exciting season for years and Orbea-For Goodness Shakes! aim to be right up there at the head of the peloton.”

As the name suggests, the team will ride bikes from Spanish company Orbea and use For Goodness Shakes! recovery drinks.

Assistant team manager Stephen Charles said: “No one has to tell us how competitive it will be in the UK peloton in 2010. Teams like Endura and Sigma Sport have really bolstered their squads, bringing them on par with the established teams like Rapha-Condor, and they will all be super-motivated to fight hard for the Premier Calendar and Tour Series.

“It’s such a boost for us to have Orbea and For Goodness Shakes! backing the team. They are both such committed and enthusiastic sponsors, and every member of the team and management share that commitment. We’ll all be putting in the hard miles over the winter to lay the foundations for a successful first season for Orbea-For Goodness Shakes!”.

Online retailers ProBikeKit have teamed up with James Smith of to put together their South West-based 2010 team, which will compete in local and national events.

Team manager James will be joined by elite rider Rob Willcocks (winner of this summer’s Team Tor 2000 circuit series), second category racer Chris Lobb and first cat riders Jamie Howard and Robert Jackson.

They’re still looking for one first cat or elite rider to join the team – applications can be sent to

Mark McCance, of ProBikeKit, said: “This is a great opportunity for ProBikeKit to be associated with some of the best of the UK’s young breakthrough talent. Our focus as a business is on providing the dedicated road enthusiast with all their riding needs, so the chance to support talented riders on their journey to the top flight of road cycling is a natural fit with the PBK brand”
