A week of events has been organised in Queenstown, New Zealand, to coincide with a round of the national mountain bike series and the NZone Brake Burner Super D endurance race.
The week begins on Monday 9 February with the Really Railing Rally Race, a multi-stage timed downhill race. The next day there’s the Vertigo Bikes Skyline Pro Invitational where riders will battle to be crowned King of Skyliner. That will be followed by the Revolver Jump Jam at the Gorge Road trails on Wednesday 11.
On the Thursday the Das Uber D endurance downhill race returns, while the final event is a relaxed barbecue, beer and expression session at the pump track (categories include fastest lap, enduro lap king, freestyle tranny pumper, pursuit and last man standing) before the national downhill race. There may even be a longest skid competition sometime in the week due to popular demand.
The programme has been arranged by Seb Kemp, who guides for Vertigo Bikes in Queenstown and Bear Back Biking in Whistler, Canada. He said: “Seeing as though we have two of the biggest races in NZ happening one week apart here in Queenstown, I figured there may be a lot of people in town for the events, roadtripping or locals who wanna rip and shred.
“All the events are practically free and the nominal donation of NZ$2 goes to the Queenstown mountain bike club to maintain, upgrade and increase the world class mountain biking facilities we have here. I am doing this entirely voluntarily simply because I love having fun on my bike with other bikers. These events are designed to maximize fun, bring people together and celebrate what wonderful and diverse riding facilities we have here in Queenstown.”
