Off road cyclists will have the rare opportunity to receive professional guidance from Downhill World Champion Tracy Moseley at the Trek Dirt Series, which started July 16-17 in Winter Park, Colorado and continues throughout the summer with stops in Portland, OR; Canmore, AB, Whistler, BC and Fruita, CO.
Moseley will join a series of coaches provided to help participants improve their mountain bike skills in small groups during development sessions and instructional rides held each morning followed by trail rides in the afternoons.
“This is the first time we have the reigning World Champion and World Cup Series leader as a guest coach,” Candace Shadley from Trek Dirt Series told BikeRadar. “Plus, racing accomplishments aside, Tracy is a wonderful person, so we’re super excited to have her involved. She’ll also be around at lunchtimes and on Saturday evening to answer questions about mountain biking and her racing career, or simply visit.”
The Trek Dirt Series has hosted mountain bike camps since 2001 with a primary goal of getting more women on mountain bikes and to support women who have already made a commitment to the sport. The program offers roughly 40 coaches that oftentimes includes top-level cyclists such as Kathy Pruitt, who joined the coaching roster for the full season.
“We typically spend two days developing technical skills, going on instructional rides, and generally having a great time together,” Shadley said. “Participants learn a ton and go home completely excited about all they have learned. The best thing I think is that the feelings of success and confidence that participants develop at the camp extend into everyday life.”
The women kicked off the 2011 Dirt Series in Winter Park’s Trestle Bike Park, which hosts an array of downhill and cross-country mountain bike trails. Especially for the events Trek will offer a fleet of demo mountain bikes to test including the Fuel EX, Remedy, Scratch and Session. “The Trestle Bike Park has incredible trails and there will be tons of opportunities to demonstrate, motivate, and teach,” Shadley said.
There are 17 Trek Dirt Series clinics held throughout the season. The remaining clinics will be held in from July 30-31 in Portland, August 13-14 in Whistler, August 20-21 in Canmore, September 10-11 in Whistler and September 24-25 in Fruita.
