World Cup DH/4X #3

British riders competing in the Austrian round of the World CUp didn't quite live up to the promise

Results from Austria

British riders competing in the Austrian round of the World CUp didn’t quite live up to the promise shown in Germany the weekend before but there were nevertheless some good results, notably amongst the British women.

In the Women’s 4X, held on Saturday night, Specialized rider Anneka Beerten got her second WC win of the season and the second in two weekends. She was closely followed by Brit BMXer Joey Gough. Fionn Griffiths did well to finish 5th.
The men were next to race and Brian Lopes got the win over Cedric Gracia in second and Michal Prokop in third. Scott Beaumont won the B-final for fifth and Will Longden finished in eleventh for MBUK/Santa Cruz.

Sunday’s traditionally downhill day, and downhill races are traditionally won by Anne-Caroline Chausson. The French rider didn’t upset tradition, beating Vanessa Quin by a measly two tenths of a second. Once again three British women made it into the top ten, with Tracy Mosely finshing fifth, Helen Gaskell eighth and Fionn Griffiths in tenth.
Next up were the men, the Australians racing down the hill to an Aussie one-two-three. Sam Hill was the fastest by a long way, gaining eight seconds over Chris Kovarik. Behind Kovarik was Nathan Rennie in third.
Top British finsher was Gee Atherton in eighth and MBUK’s own Neil Donoghue was unlucky not to get a top 10, finishing 11th, 16secs down on Sam Hill.

Keep an eye out on the MBUK/Santa Cruz team page on the website for an update of Will’s blog.

Next up on the World Cup calendar is Mont St Anne in Canada on June 25-26 – keep an eye on for results
