If you need a bag that can handle day-to-day duties, and step up when you need to lug the kitchen sink to work, the Sector 30 could be for you. It’s incredibly useful for those days when you have loads of stuff to carry, but thanks to the compression straps, it can be cinched down when you’ve only got your keys in there.
Considering its capacity, the Altura doesn’t feel cumbersome, even when fully loaded up. It’s a tall bag though. The benefit of this is that it sits nicely against your back, so the load is well spread. However we found that during riding, the height of it could occasionally make itself known as you knock the back of your helmet on it.
The shoulder straps aren’t particularly padded, but are comfy enough, and we never felt them cutting in to our shoulders. Waist and chest straps do a good job of keeping the Sector securely in place during riding. The substantial pads on the back are particularly good and the vented back panel allows air to flow between the pads. The padding also means that the contents of the bag don’t jab you in the spine when it’s rammed full.
The main compartment houses laptop and tablet sleeves, but they don't offer as much padding as we’d want for expensive devices. The front compartment has pockets for small items and they’re all easy to access when the bag is full.
We didn’t like the zips – they could be snatchy to open and close. A particularly good feature though is the mesh pocket on the front; it's meant to be for a D-lock but we used it loads for shoving jerseys, gloves and the like in when we needed to remove layers during a ride.
