Our review
A versatile, reliable, usefully smooth and controlled performer for the cash

RockShox’s cheapest ‘proper’ fork still runs an old chassis, but performance is solid for the money. While the Recon hasn’t inherited the latest ‘power bulge’ and post-mount lower leg upgrades, it’s still a stiff, smooth and reassuring fork.

The 351 model also gets RockShox’s Motion Control damping with wide ranging external rebound and compression adjustment that goes right through to lockout.

U-Turn travel-adjust is equally simple, incremental and bombproof via the metal twist top cap, giving the same rate of travel from 85-130mm (3.3-5.1in).

An alloy steerer keeps weight below 2kg and there’s a Maxle screw-through axle version for an extra £100 or a Race air-sprung 120mm (4.7in) option for £349.99.
