Race Face Atlas MTB pedals

Our review

Super-grippy pedals whether the trails are wet or dry, and easy to maintain too. The price tag is high though

Race Face‘s Atlas pedals certainly aren’t cheap, but their size and profile, as well as their ease of maintenance, might just make them worth the investment. Weighing 365g a pair, they’re competitively light, and they’re super easy to look after too, with a grease port in the end of the axle that’s covered with a spare pin.

The 10 pins per side all screw in from behind and are shaped into thin cylinders past the thread to give a ton of grip when your foot’s on the pedal. The platform is 100mm wide, though the amount of usable space is reduced by the fat bearing area and the fact that the pedal sits virtually against the crank. It still gives a good feeling of support though, even for wider footed riders.

We were impressed by how well the Atlases cleared in thick mud too, with a consistent feel between dry and super-muddy riding. After a good few months being hammered we only had one maintenance issue – some play in the left-hand pedal, which took 30 seconds to remedy at the trailside. A full rebuild is child’s play when you eventually need to do it too.
