Narrow, women-specific fit with BG engineering for comfort and efficiency

Specialized's successful Torch women's road shoes have seen a few updates for 2007, including a new colour - black - and vented soles. They have a slipper-like fit with a small, low profile heel section and reduced overall volume. The shape is very close and narrow all the way up to the toe box, which may feel too tight for some people. Likewise, the Velcro straps and top ratchet buckle provide a snug fit that's best suited to slender feet. Specialized's Body Geometry removable insole has the thickest padding of any on test and includes an anatomical arch and metatarsal button (to spread out the toes). The BG outsole has a slight outward angling to align feet with knees while pedalling; it's also injection moulded with glass reinforcement for stiffness, though it doesn't quite match the carbon soles and is compatible with three-bolt cleats only. Hard rubber toe and heel pads are provided for safer walking and they have a reflective heel patch. Cara Coolbaugh
