2017 Genesis road line-up highlights

Plenty of updates and new additions to women's range

The range of road bikes on offer from Genesis has grown considerably this year. As well as lots of incremental updates to pre-existing lines, there's the introduction of some snazzy new models and a larger women’s range.

Update 18th August 2017; Genesis has just announced the launch of its 2018 range and we've got the full scoop, live on the site now.

2017 Genesis Equilibrium 30

For 2017, you can no longer buy an Equilibrium in its high zoot stainless Reynolds 931 form, with all models in the line up moving to 725.

Although Genesis has dropped the higher end tubing from the line up, it has added an Ultegra disc model to the range with the Equilibrium 30 and it looks so cool. The seriously zesty green, red and black paint-job stands out in a world of monochrome mediocrity. Topped off with those delicious Clement Strada skinwall tyres, this bike looks really quite special.

The Equilibrium 30 keeps the same carbon fork with an alloy steerer as the previous generation and features the Fulcrum Racing Sport DB wheels seen throughout the rest of the road range from Genesis.

With a full Ultegra, hydro disc groupset and the ability to fit proper full-cover mudguards, the Equilibrium 30 looks set to be an ideal year-round, mile munching machine.

2017 Genesis Zeal

The Genesis Zeal, an all new women's specific road bike for 2017

The Zeal is a completely new bike for 2017. This women's specific carbon endurance machine looks set to go head-to-head with similarly minded bikes, like the Trek Silque and the Cannondale Synapse.

For £1,400 you get a lovely looking carbon frameset with full internal cable routing, a Tiagra 10-speed groupset and women's specific finishing kit. Although the Alexrims/Joytech wheels are a bit of an OEM special, they’re comparable with what you’ll find on other bikes in this price range.

Like most of the range from Genesis, the Zeal is also available as a frameset should you want to build up your own.

On closer inspection of the frame we were delighted to see that a threaded bottom bracket shell has been utilised, mechanics rejoice. This gets a big thumbs up from us in the practicality category.

2017 Genesis Croix de Fer 10

The Cycle to Work sweetheart, the Croix de Fer, gets updated for 2017
The Cycle to Work sweetheart, the Croix de Fer, gets updated for 2017

The Cycle to Work sweetheart, the Croix de Fer has also seen updates throughout the whole range for 2017.

Of particular note is the new Croix de Fer 10, which moves away from the Acera/Sora mix drivetrain of last year and moves to the updated Sora groupset. With its concealed shifter cables and sleek, four arm crankset, the Croix de Fer is a much better looking bike for 2017.

With 35mm Kenda Flintridge tyres, bags of clearance for mudguards or wider rubber and geometry numbers that make for a lively yet comfortable ride, the Croix de Fer looks set to be another popular choice as it enters its 11th year of production.

2017 Zero Disc Z.2

We were also quite taken by the look of the updated Zero Disc range, with the £2,399.99 Z.2 standing out from the bunch.

With the lively yellow highlighting contrasting against the rich, gloss black of the frame, this bike willbe a real head turner.

Whilst the Zero is definitely a bike with a racing pedigree, Genesis has utilised a mix of “high-modulus, unidirectional carbon” to take the sting out of the roughest roads, which should make it suitable for longer days in the saddle too.

There is also clearance for wider tyres, which should help to eliminate any remaining road buzz.
