Garmin Edge Touring GPS cycling computers launched - Eurobike 2013

Two touring models with preloaded maps at US$249/£199 and US$299/£249

Garmin has launched two new GPS cycling computers at Eurobike 2013, the Edge Touring (US$249/£199) and Edge Touring Plus (US$299/£249). As their names suggest, they're intended for tourers. Both come with preloaded maps for on- and off-road navigation and Garmin says functionality is similar to that of a GPS sat nav in a car, with turn-by-turn directions, but with bike-specific features.

Riders can choose between 'cycling', 'tour cycling', and 'mountain bike' for different types of routes, with roads, bike paths and off-road segments suggested. You'll also be given elevation profiles.

Whether you're asking the computer for directions from point to point or following a downloaded route, the Edge Touring and Edge Touring Plus screens give visual turn-by-turn instructions.

In addition to their navigational features, the Edge Touring computers also give basic information such as time, speed, average speed, max speed, distance, and more.

The Edge Touring Plus has all the features of a standard computer, plus ANT+ capability and a barometric altimeter. The rechargeable battery will last up to 17 hours, Garmin claims.
