Mongoose's new Guide bikes are all-road, bikepacking machines without the steep cost

Designed for long days in the saddle and fully loaded touring

Mongoose has released a new line of bikes called Guide built for commuting, gravel (or all road, or groad) riding and bikepacking. Three models are available and they all roll on 29 x 1.75in tires for capability on and off the pavement.

In addition to the wider tires, the geometry of the Guide series is a bit more relaxed and upright for long days in the saddle and fully loaded touring.

At the top of the line, the Guide Expert comes with a carbon fork and 12mm thru-axles on both ends. Providing the push to the horizon is a Shimano 2x11-speed 105 drivetrain spun by FSA Gossamer cranks. The gearing is 48/32 x 11-32.

WTB STP i19 wheels are on board and wrapped with Kenda Slant Six 29 x 1.75in tires. Shimano BR-RS805 flat-mount disc brakes provide the stopping power.

  • $1,799, UK and Australian pricing TBD

The Guide Comp slots into the middle of the range. A mix of Shimano Sora and Tiagra derailleurs powered by FSA Omega cranks make up the 2x10-speed gearing with a range of 48/32 x 11-32.

Shimano hydraulic BR-S405 flat-mount disc brakes provide control for the WTB STP i19 wheels with Kenda Slant Six 29 x 1.75in tires.

The Guide series starts with the Sport.

Drivetrain duties bump down from its more expensive siblings with a Shimano Sora 2x9 drivetrain and Samox cranks.

Interestingly, even with less gearing, the range is a bit broader with 48/32 chainrings and a 11-34 cassette.

Promax cable-actuated disc brakes slow the WTB STP i19 wheels and wire-bead Kenda Slant Six 29 x 1.75in tires.
