Uvex recalls seven helmet models

A total of 46,800 units affected by chinstrap recall

Uvex is recalling seven models of helmets because the anchor for the chinstrap can fail. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said the helmets don't comply with commission's impact requirements of the CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets.

The affected model numbers as XB017, XB022, XB025, XB027, XB032, XB036 and XB038. The model numbers are printed on the inside of the shell under the pad on the top right side. Some 46,800 units are affected.

This summer, TÜV Süd tested the Uvex City 9 helmet and found that the chinstrap achor could fail in stability tests. Uvex created a new anchor, and suggested all consumer with that helmet at six others replace the strap.

No injuries have been reported.

In the US, the CPSC issued a recall December 12, saying that consumers should contact UVEX for a free CPSC-compliant helmet or a refund. The helmets were sold at sporting good stores and bike shops from September 2009 through June 2014 for between US$100 and US$260.
