After a coded direct message, I received four stickers from this radicalised rim-braker in the mail.
I don’t feel like I’m about to die at any moment, so as far as I can tell, there’s no arsenic inside the envelope. I’m guessing this is due to the fact I wrote an article in defence of rim brakes earlier this year.
While some snooping has thrown up a few clues — I am the BikeRadar snooper in chief after all — this anti-disc zealot is yet to be positively identified.
For the pro rim brake among our readers, you’ll be delighted to hear that just last week Compass announced the release of its very lovely, ultra-light cantilever brakes, further proving my point that they probably don’t need to be saved anyway.
The stickers can be had for £1 from Etsy and you can keep up to date with the #savetherimbrake campaign on Instagram. I personally can’t wait to stick them somewhere inconspicuous on the bike of whoever I think is the most pro-disc among my colleagues.
Given how bizarrely heated the discussion surrounding rim brakes can get, I’m fully expecting the comments on this article to get feisty, but dear readers, please remember to keep it clean.
