Crankbrothers has a reputation for stylish design, and aesthetically the Pica+ multi-tool and its packaging are impressive in a way Apple fans will appreciate.
The smooth curves of its alloy frame sit really comfortably in your palm. It’s not the smallest or lightest, but the generous 9cm length and secure grip make easy work of stubborn bolts – it’s much less painful than the smaller options out there.
The way each stainless steel tool notches firmly at 90 or 180 degrees helps when delving through nests of cables, but can hinder gloved opening. The internal springing means the outside stays smooth and free of clunky latches though.
The frame sides spread apart (against the spring) along those big, hollow axles to allow the bits to rotate, and this allows the body to firmly grip that little plastic socket carrier. The sockets are fiddly to remove from the carrier and a loose fit on the 8mm key, which means loosing them is a risk. Leaving them out makes poking out the keys easier however. The chain tool works, however the small tab lacks leverage.
