Bike-specific heart rate monitor

BikeRadar score3/5

As a cycling-specific product, the NiteRider has the appearance of a bike computer. The biggest advantage of this over wrist-worn products is that the display is large and the buttons are designed with gloved hands in mind.

Setting up the monitor is simple with the quick start guide, allowing you to get out and ride and then to look into the more advanced functions as and when you need them.

The thermometer and altimeter are both handy but the accuracy of the power meter is questionable and didn’t correlate at all to our power meter readout.

Installing both the twist-lock bar mount and speed sensor was easy. With the heart rate function you’re able to programme in one training zone and arrows on the display will let you know if you’re above or below it.

Disappointingly for the price, you can’t recall ‘time in zone’ after the session and you’re limited to maximum and average heart rate. Syncing and monitoring of heart rate and speed is very good and the strap is comfortable to wear.
