Leddite Luma C Light

BikeRadar verdict

4 out of 5 stars

"Bright and light enough for full-on riding at a price that's an absolute steal"

By Guy Kesteven, Mountain Biking UK

This ribbed single Seoul P7 LED head unit from Leddite is comparable in power to other lights at double the price.

There are some ring marks in the peripheral but the beam is good enough to be able to ride hard on challenging terrain. Its weight is good and battery life is ample.

The single click backlit switch and O-ring handlebar mount are easy to use, and the connectors and head unit are well sealed. Although it gets very hot, we’ve not had any issues as a result.

They cost $80 direct from the Far East but Leddite add a UK charger, a guarantee and the convenience of buying through your local shop while keeping it a total bargain. You can email them at sales@leddite.com.

You might aswell just buy 3 from HK especially as they don`t sell them in my local shop. That review above is just an advert really.

Another case of UK consumer being ripped off, buy it the same unit for £50 from HK:

About £48 from dealextreme.com (depending on exchange rate)

    Standard bar mount ones:

Or version with optional helmet mount (which is cheaper for some reason!

Delivery takes about 3 weeks but got to be worth the wait to save £100 surely??

In fact buy a couple and sell one for a small profit in the classifieds. I'm sure some people will pay an extra £10 - 15 to avoid the wait.

Still getting a bargain at £65!

    :-)

Have Leddite even got a website?

I personally don’t think it is a bad idea but not for 3 times the price of the one you can get from DX.

The light itself is fantastic for £50 and I reckon they would probably have hit the nail in the head if they had released it under £100 with UK Battery charger, good customer support and a 1 year warranty. But for £150 I can buy 3 lights so it’s a 1 star for me.

I too am aware of the dealextreme site - has anyone here actually bought from it? and if so how much was UK import duty and VAT? - this can REALLY hurt as in + another 40 odd percent... Based on the review I have to say the light look superb though...

My light of choice (had I the money) would be this: http://www.supernova-lights.com/en/e3_triple.html though - has anyone seen it in the UK yet?

Michael_McK - no one has ever reported being hit for Tax or VAT on a DX light, I've bought 4 lights off them and another 5 m8's have bought light too without issue.

Hmm.. Michael McKelvey has been hit by Her Majesty's people several times! the most maddening was over a set of turbocat lights sent back from repair: http://www.turbocatusa.com/S32.html (mine are in anodized red) So will see, in truth I would only be 'backcountry' as in using unlit roads about once a week so £50 (little as it is) may not be worth it... Still where I live in Belfast there' s still lots of cool places to go where I could really use some decent lights - notably some fantastic bike paths.

Kit itself is great but please do yourself a favour and buy from DX for a third of the price. All you need is a UK mains adaptor (also available from DX for about £1)

I've got two of these lights and bought another two for a mate. Can't praise them enough for the money.

Re import duty - don't worry. I have never been faced with any bills for this and I've bought plenty from DX over the last few years.

Customs usually winds up as around 15-20% + the £20 for the post office charge for paying it on your behalf, so you could be looking at an extra £30 for these.

From all the folks that have them - how waterproof is this light (light itself, I'm not fussed about the battery, as that will be inside the kayak I'm thinking of mounting it on). Is it a couple of sealed bits (as in O Ring sealed) or is it more rough than that? Could it handle 60 seconds underwater?

I'd also ask if it floats, but hopefully no ones found that out on a bike yet...

i know loads of people that have bought these from dx and not one of them has been charged import duty etc............

I have bought this light from DX, excellent quality, also bought UK adaptor for £1. So far no downsides - no import duty (not sure why not, but who's arguing?), charges well, gives 3 hours on full beam, and well over twice that on half beam, which is ample except when it's pitch black. Some people complain its too bright, but I just point it downwards when approaching oncoming traffic as you would when dipping the car headlights. Have dropped the batteries a couple of times, and they seem to bounce OK. Sorry Brislex, haven't tested its buoyancy yet, but might suggest my colleagues at the rowing club try it out for night-time rowing. I have used it in heavy rain without a problem. Conclusion - why pay 3 times the price for this, or 6 times the price for a Lupine Tesla?

£150 what a rip off! I bought one of these lights from DX for under £50, the charger is 110-240v and you can get a ‘visitor to the uk adaptor’ from Asda for 60p.

You will not get stung for tax as on the packaging it describes the item as ‘travelling, bike light spares’ this infers that the recipient is on their travels and that they and the light will be leaving the UK at some point so the UK taxes will not be applied.

given that these probably don't have proper CE certification, etc, I wonder if selling in the UK is even legal. Could be a bit iffy that.

In response to other questions, DX always mark as 'gift' and offer free postage. I've had no problems so far with delviery or duty on anything bought from them.

I'm giving the light 5 out of 5 - I bought mine from DX though.

That said - even if you pay £150 for it - its not bad value compared to a lot of lights !

What a rip-off. I'm sure the light is good, but for £150? Get a new RSP light, better lighting and great value.

What about a set of airbike SL lights for your helmet from on-one. 900 lumens £99, Then the P7 version £59 for the bars 200 lumens. I have this setup and these are brill. I means really brill. Lots of light for not silly money.
