OnGuard Bulldog Mini LS lock review

BikeRadar verdict
"At this price the Bulldog is one of the best mini U-locks out there"

Mini U-locks are popular as they’re easy to carry. They’re also difficult to lever (a small shackle’s easy to fill), but the width can be a little limiting so you'll need to use a secondary cable.
The Bulldog Mini LS is better than most because the shackle is narrow (90mm rather than the usual 115mm) but still a usable length.
Fitted correctly, the Bulldog is difficult to attack and once we’d got a leverage point we found it tough to break it. Hammering and chiselling were well resisted and after five minutes it was still operable.
Our power-assisted tool shot through one side of the shackle in under 20 seconds, allowing us to pry open the lock. The lock is backed with a £500 anti-theft guarantee and is great value for money.

If the anti-theft guarantee is like the one offered by Kryptonite it isn't as simple as one might think. I wouldn't consider it as a buying point.

That said, the Sold Secure aspect will mean your insurance could be valid (if you have any) I really like On Guard locks as they give you loads of keys, and even if you leave them outside (mine has been in the office car park for a year) it still works first time every time. Which is nice.

In the city the mini lock is all you need. I have the 140mm Pitbull, which is more solid, smaller and easier to carry. At only 1KG it's good for a commuter.
Anyone who takes the effort to steal my crap commuter through this lock can have it. I'll just get a better bike through the cycle to work scheme. My carbon road bike never leaves my side.
There’s no need for this longer mini lock (240mm) with available city Sheffield type cycle racks!
