Pletscher Multizoom kickstand review

BikeRadar verdict
"Excellent for tourers and commuters alike "

At over half a kilo, this kickstand may not be especially light, but it’s sturdy enough to handle a fully laden touring bike.
Easy to fit, it’s great for those photo opportunities without a place to lean your steed, or for when you need to park up to nip into a shop. Build quality is good and our model has stood up to several months of hard use.
The load is braced across the chainstays and seatstays – we’d recommend taping them before fitting to protect your bike’s finish – with an adjustable arm that should fit most frame sizes. The leg can also be cut down to suit all wheel sizes.

I got this stand a week or so ago and am fairly happy with it, the 2010 model does not have the same foot as the one in the picture, I would say that th new one is not a sturdy as the one in the photo looks. It works well though and is very adjustable, the fixing across the stays looks dubious especially how it clamps on the seat stay but it sems to work well. I have tested it supporting 2 x 10Kg panniers and also my 3 year old in a chair at the back(not at the same time as the panniers). You have to adjust the foot length to allow the bike to lean over just enough to ensure it doesnt flip back the other way if you take the outside pannier off first but it is very easy to adjust the foot length. You really do have to tape your fram to protect it though as it is metal on metal

I purchased the multi-zoom in February 2011, which is an upgrade to the 2010 model in the review. I need a rugged rear mount stand because I have a semi-recumbent bike (Day 6) that I have converted to electric, with a 12 pound battery on the rear rack. Prior to the Pletscher multi-zoom, I had two other rear mount stands -- a Greenfield cast aluminum and before that, an inexpensive steel stand from Walmart. The Pletscher costs more, but it does the job far better than the two other stands.

Brilliant design for those frames that do not have mounting holes for a standard stand. It really is easy to install and is great because:
1) It s very stable even with front and rear panniers and bar bag
2) It does not foul your pedals like ones that mount under the bottom bracket
Wished I had know of this design years ago as its a great addition to a commuting and touring bike
