Altura Night Vision
BikeRadar verdict
"Good recreational level all-weather jacket that'll get you noticed."
It may not look like it from the picture, but this is one incredibly bright jacket. The reflective accents of the Night Vision will have you lit up like a Christmas tree when you're illuminated by a car's headlights. It really is that noticeable, and if you want to heighten the effect during daylight hours, check out the yellow version.
The Altec fabric isn't as breathable as the Altec Reactive material used on the Crosslite jacket, but it's good enough for the commutes and easy paced trail rides. The mesh liner certainly helps reduce that clammy feeling - should things sweat up - and the ubiquitous pit zips are present as a cooling backup. Reflective, water repellent zips line the front and chest pocket, and even though we were blasted away by its glare, the jacket looks relatively street-friendly in daylight.
Other features include a back vent, drawcord droptail, fleece-lined drawcord neck and a rear pocket that the jacket can fold into.

I have been using this jacket for over a month now and find it to be excellent. I already own a similar Altura jacket but wanted the hi-vis one for commuting. I was sceptable at first about it being black but did not want to walk round in a bright yellow jacket, It certainly makes drivers notice you when hit by headlights due to the amount of reflective bits. I even use it when out walking my dog and the wife keeps borrowing it.
I have just bought the overtrousers to go with it so will see how I get on with them over the winter days.

The jacket is really well cut for a riders needs. The reflective materials really do light up well when hit by headlight beams. I do have a couple of problems though. The Altura lettering on the left sleeve has begun to peel off in the wind so I am now left with Alt. The lettering on the right sleeve seems to be part of the material and not stuck on. Also the main closure zip toggle easily pulled off a few days ago which resulted in some quick maintenance and lockwire to hold in place.
I'm glad I bought the jacket but I didn't expect the faults noted above.

this jacket is good value for money have been using it for about 10 months on my daily ride to work and it stands up to the elements extremly well it is cut nicely with lots of hi vis panels it has 2 side pockets and a rear pocket which i must say is hard work getting open with gloves on. it allso folds into its self for easy storage the velcro cuffs lock out wind and rain well, and so far it has kept me dry in all types of rain the only - is that you do get very warm compared to some softshells

Great jacket but not the best. Great at stopping the wind, nice and bright while is a great fit. However, when I washed the jacket, it lost all it's waterproofing qualities which was really frustrating...I have used several proofing products since and have not got back the original waterproof qualities. I will now have to buy a new jacket next winter and will be spending a bit more and looking for a Gore-Tex based jacket. It's not the worst jacket on the market and will still wear it to death, I just won't be relying on it when the rains come.

been using mine for a year now a good reliable waterproof jacket although it can get a tad warm when under exertion havent had any problems with the reflective lettering thus far it is important not to wash above 30 degrees, vent do certainly help once you get them open, which can be fiddly with gloves on, but all in all its a very good allround jacket for riding well cut well thought and Well bright very good value for the price point

Hi I really wanted to like this jacket, decent brand, reflective but not bright yellow, waterproof with good ventilation, looks ok, surprisingly warm ish (I wear it with just a base layer even MTBing in Peak District through winter). Problem is the zips. All have broken, split, or pulled off. What is going on there? I know other people who have also had the same trouble. Cheapskates. Used to be a great brand a few years ago. Shame. Stick to Rab VapourRise - fantastic.

I've had this jacket for several months now and have not only worn in out mountain biking but running at night. It is highly visible when any kind of light is shone on it. It is wind proof and splash proof and strong enough to take the crashes I experience regularly. The zip on mine are all still functioning fine and the chest pocket is ideal for an mp3 player.
Altura have cut this to be a nice slim fit which really suits riding but also does make for a good aprés ride jacket too that doesn't look bad in the bar.

For the price, you cannot beat them. Lovely cut, sturdy, pull-cords in all of the right places. Some people seem to complain about the zips on Altura gear. Mine are still fine, the chest pocket zip - with the design aspects to stop water when the zip sits flush. Need to show a bit more care when opening it, I will admit.

Well i thought this jacket represented good value for money, and WAS pleased with it, however after just under a week the zip on the samll pocket has broken, which is rather disappointing. If I was being super critical I would aslo say it is defo more of a winter jacket, as it did get quite hot. Good value for money, if only they would modify the goddam zips, also in my opinion could do with some side pockets. I did get caught in a heavy downpour for an hour of riding and was impressed with its waterproofness though

Have had my yellow Night Vision for a year now. For me (and I'd be the first to admit that my body runs run fairly warm anyway) it is a cool/cold weather jacket, far too hot to consider wearing in the summer months. The Night Vision combined with a light or mid weight base layer was all I needed to see me through last winter which consisted of 3 or 4 3 hour+ mtb rides per week.
But those zips are indeed very fragile.... so much so that I'd be wary of going for anything else by Altura as a result. Within a couple of months the bottom of the main front zip had come away from the material and now requires very careful operation. To cap it all, last week the pull tab on the front zip broke in half leaving a very short stub.
Otherwise I am very pleased with the jacket, rectify the zip problems and I'd have no hesitation in replacing my Night Vision with another when the time comes (when those zips finally give up the ghost!!)
Please sort them out Altura!!

very reflective and nicely waterproof. But damn hot - and the pit zips really, really need tabs on the zips. Almost impossible to locate the tiny zips if you've got full finger gloves on.

My first non Altura jacket as I decided to move up market and what a waste of money, a windproof jacket that’s.
This does not do what it says on the tin!
What is the point of a windproof jacket if no wind proofing has been put behind the zips? It’s like riding with two holes in the jacket allowing cold air onto your shoulders, not good at this time of year.
A great jacket, but why is there no wind proofing behind the zips it make the jacket pointless and a total waste of money?

Great jacket for getting seen at night - my friends complained it dazzled them on night rides! No complaints about the waterproofing or windproofing as I comfortably survived a winters worth of wet winter night rides without any problems. However the zip recently fell apart making the jacket useless after less than a year. I also found it rather sweaty for anything other than cold winter rides.

After eight months' or so commuting use, the main front zip has broken off at the handle; the zip to the very useful-for-rail tickets-and-passes front breast pocket is also completely broken - so that's useless now... Looking at both zips, they just don't look up to the job of regular use, which spoils an otherwise very useful jacket for the sake of a few pence in the spec. Usability niggles like that are enough to make me look elsewhere when it's time to renew. Pity.

I've had the yellow version for about 9 months now, never had a problem with the zips at all, very waterproof and pretty warm. I do get sweaty in it , not the most breathable jacket in the world, not really for warm weather.

not a bad jacket but too warm for summer and a slightly strange cut. I'm not particularly broad shouldered but I find that even the large size is a bit tight under armpits when in a riding position. Try before you buy...

I have had this jacket for over a week, today I have done 32 miles in mixed weather, cool, cloudy, and raining. I had to remove the jacket after 10 minutes, as I was soaking wet, this is not breathable in any sense of the word, but what do you expect for £64.00, however don't let this put you off.
The jacket is well made and the reflective trim is the best i have seen, This is more suited for heavy rain and cold weather. So in the mean time I am looking for a decent wet weather jack, but I don't think I'm going to get one for less than £150.00.
Over all, It's not bad for the money, and like the saying goes you get what you pay for.

I have worn this jacket a few more times, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
You might as well use a bag dust bin liner, sweat! its like sitting in a steam room.
Dig a little deeper in your pocket and buy a decent breathable jacket.

top marks - good cut for the fuller figure and is lasting well (12 months so far) washes fine and dries quickly.... looks like it was made to have a hood attatchment but never came with one.... vents work well, and works as a good jacket off the bike too. cheaper prices for this jacket can be found on e.....bay though.

I have had this jacket through two winters and will try to make it last one more, zip broke this year and you do get incredibly hot. Far too bulky to pop in my backpack if rain is forecast. I only tend to use it now if it is raining when I leave on my commute and pack a lighter jacket in case I get caught. Would be interested if the the new Night Vision Evo is more breathable and lighter as the price indicates it should be. Still great value to last this long for the price and love the visibilty it provides pity you can't get that on a better quality and lighter product.

Great visibility, (I got a yellow fluoro one) and great ventilated shape.
But the materials are TERRIBLE!! The stiching and glue is coming apart all over the place after only 6 months use, and I washed it very gently by hand with a tiny bit of soap and most of the waterproofing is coming off. It was already beginning to come off anyway before I washed it. The colour also has faded considerably and I look like I've been out in the weather for years in it.
