Mavic’s Echapee features both styling and comfort to die for

The Echapee isn’t cheap, but put it on as the autumn chills start to bite and we're willing to bet that you'll wear it every ride until, oh, probably June in the UK.

The main body is Gore Windstopper, with warm but venting mesh in key areas so that you don’t overheat. The inside is soft enough to wear nothing underneath – we wore it this way on warmer test days and it's as comfortable as a jersey.

You can increase cooling by opening up the forearm vents – we're a little sceptical about the design of these but by playing around (they're easy to use on the fly) and opening them up for climbs or sections of sustained pedalling we found that they produce a nicely regulated feel.

The asymmetric zip makes the collar extremely comfortable – it sits in just the right position, and doesn’t flap if you open it up either. The slim cut plus back gripper stops chilly breezes, but despite being a close fit we found the generous shoulder shape means that it moves well and there’s no constricted feel across the front. The details are good too, with easy to grab zip pulls, deep soft sealing cuffs and reflective trim.
