Luna Sport Gear Katka Women's Jersey Review - BikeRadar

Named after Luna's pro rider and three-time Olympian Katerina Nash, this jersey follows the company's green mission by being made of Kitex: 50 percent recycled polyester and 50 percent standard polyester.

The fabric is light, soft and breathable, making it very comfortable for summer riding. In fact, although the tested jersey was black, it wasn't hot even in direct sunslight. The fabric contains UPF 20 for added sun protection. It's so light that it can be easily damaged by contact with Velcro or other rough surfaces.

The shape is form-fitting without being tight. The sleeves in particular lie nicely against the arms, with a ribbed band rather than elastic. The collar has a similar band, which angles down to the 1/2-length zip in a Nehru-jacket style. Contrasting colour panels at the shoulders and waistline add to the understated feminine look.

This jersey will likely appeal to a variety of women, who can choose Black or Blue Velvet if they prefer darker colours, or proclaim their girl power with Pale Pink or the bright peach hue of Paradise. The final design element is a Japanese-inspired print on the back pockets, neck liner and zip flap. The 9.5in chrome zip moves smoothly and is made with recycled tape, while the pull features a crescent-moon accent.

The jersey has three full-size back pockets, with the outside two featuring angled tops for easier access. As with previously-tested Luna jerseys, the body is cut long, so short-waisted riders may not appreciate having the pocket contents sitting over their backside while riding.

The bottom edge of the jersey has no elastic; instead it's finished with a narrow band to match the sleeves and collar. Along the back hem sits a "Crescent Gusset" -- an elastic-free panel designed to hold the bottom of the jersey against the wearer's back, even when the pockets are full.

This feature works well, but it will be up to the rider whether or not that's a good thing. As the fabric and its laden pockets lie tightly over the rider's back, a substantial hot-spot forms. With little air flow or wicking potential, some riders may have to periodically lift the jersey to prevent having a pool of sweat on their lower backs.
