BikeRadar verdict
"Good winter boots that are worth the money if you want to go riding during the worst weather"
Shopping partners
These Celius GTX boots from Northwave are designed to take the sting out of foul weather winter rides. Fastening them tightly is easy thanks to the Superlace closure system, which can be operated even when wearing thick gloves. The double storm flaps are held in place with Velcro and do a great job against the elements as well as keeping you nice and toasty, partly because of the Gore-Tex upper membrane.
Generous cutouts and lengthy slots mean cleat placement is easy to get right. There’s also plenty of room around the cleats, allowing them to clear mud well. The carbon reinforced soles give the GTXs a solid feel and make for efficient pedalling. There’s no need to worry that you’re compromising on power just to keep your feet snug.
When it comes to comfort, Northwave have created a boot that can be worn all day with no niggles. And the rapid clearing treads mean off-the-bike action isn’t a problem, although there is a little heel slip due to the stiff sole. All in all, the Celsius boots mean you can head out in the grottiest of weather conditions, make the most of your time on the bike and still return home with warm, dry feet. What more could you want?

I've had a pair of these for four years and they are still going strong. Wear them MTB, commuting, road training in all weathers but summer, touring. Goretex means they breathe a lot better than you would think and they don't get clammy when it gets warm (well, UK warm by which I mean up to 20 deg c!).
I believe the newer ones are warmer than my older model which I do top up with overshoes if I am MTBing in snow.
Fit is narrowish as you would expect from Italian products, but I have wide feet and have worn these on Audax events for over 12 hours without any discomfort.
Bottoms are good and water proof but you still get rain down the top if it really buckets down, the neoprene closure is good, but not that good! Very good ankle protection obviously and easy to get on and off.
If you want 'fierce warm' I guess the Lakes would be better, but for sensible all-round UK use these are great, would happily buy them again and have worn them al lot more than I expected, making them my three-season first choice.

I have the Arctic version of those and they are fantastic.
-8oC , 3 hours night ride and my feet never felt cold even when I had to walk a very steep climbs as I could find grip (and energy)

i bought the standard gtx versions (new design for 2010) in october, they have performed pretty well overall. From a waterproof perspective I have worn in the rain but not a 'deluge', but so far they have kept my feet dry. It is a stiff and comfortable shoe.
from a warmth perspective, they are pretty good. I bought a size up so can wear 2 pairs of thick socks on a really cold day. In 3 months only once have my toes gotten frozen, and that was a 20 miler on an evening when it was -2 and i wasn't wearing 2 pairs of socks.
I do have some niggles. Firstly, the elasticated lacing system is pretty poor. The lace to begin with was incredibly long so i had to cut it down, not a big deal but not ideal. Secondly, the lace is very thin and seems pretty hardwearing, however they thread through stitched on eyelets as opposed to eye holes, i have a feeling the stiched on eyelet will give way before the lace does.
Finally the storm flaps, there are two that overlap. However the lower flap overlaps the upper flap, which means that rain running down the upper flap could drip under the overlap to the lower flap and leak into the shoe. Also the stormflap velcro doesn't seem to be of the best quality.
overall I'd recommend these, they are pretty good value bearing in mind the cost of the rivals out there. and i picked up my 2010 versions from wiggle during one of their sales, for just £95.

Update - another 18 months on and still going strong. I have taken them to wearing them all year round on the mountain bike and commuting in them in all but high summer so they are getting a thrashing. All year round sounds odd for MTB but they are very breathable and last summer was, well, pants. Great protection and very stiff still. Lace eyelets are fine (re above comment). Given the length of service these are good value, I think they are coming up to 5 or more years, can't quite remember now.

I only just bought these, the fit is great and they felt very warm while I was in the house; so I was looking forward to my first ride.
This morning I set out on my 10 mile commute to work, the morning was dry but cold and I was looking forward to ride. The outside temperature was around -1 degrees, according to The Weather Channel iPhone app, and so I was confident my -10 rated boots would keep me snug. That said I had a very warm pair of socks on too, just to give the boots a boost.
Within a mile my toes were feeling cold and by half way I couldn’t feel them at all.
Overall I’m very disappointed to have spent that much money on something that just doesn’t do what it says on the tin.
Just to be sure you understand the conditions;
it was cold without frost, no cars had frost on them as I left the house at around 8:20am. I ride on roads and there were no puddles; in fact I remained entirely dry on the route. The outdoor temperature where is work is usually a degree warmer than where I live, so I was travelling to warmer climates.
