The first things we noticed about the Vertigo were its great looks and light weight, especially as the sole isn't fully carbon. It's reinforced with carbon and provides an absolutely solid foundation with a low stack height for close connection with the pedals. The uppers are very thin and light with virtually no padding, giving them a close fit all over. There's plenty of mesh for good air flow, and they dry quickly too. A y-shaped plastic piece wraps around the outside of the heel to hold it in place, while two Velcro straps and one ratchet cinch down the upper.

New for the '07 Vertigo, the micro-adjustable ratchet releases pressure in increments as well as all at once, and has a very smooth action. There's a miniscule perforated footbed and no properly useful toe or heel pads to walk on, though the cleat placement markers are handy and there's side to side adjustment as well as fore and aft.
