Our review
High performance foul weather race shoe, but unsealed sole and low cut upper limits warmth and dryness

If you want a full bore race shoe without putting up with freezing mesh panels, this revised Shimano shoe could be the answer.

The fibreglass reinforced sole is straight from Shimano’s race range, and the properly stiff performance feel is perfect when you’re torquing through muddy trenches.

The tread pattern is aggressive and open, with toe studs for traction when your wheels can’t get you any further. Long Velcro straps and a broad metal ratchet with replaceable strap mean you can crank them down super-hard for the last lap or really important climbs too.

The upper is sealed synthetic leather which is totally splash and windproof. While it’s not insulated, the large toe box offers better than average circulation and Shimano shoes normally last really well.

They’re not very warm, though, and weather protection is reduced by the low cuff. Such a stiff sole can also numb the foot faster on long, cold rides, especially as the cleat slots aren’t properly sealed.
