Cycling shorts for women are a bit like saddles – men’s ones just won’t cut it. Most importantly, female-speciﬁc pads are very different shapes to account for key differences in anatomy.

The shape of the shorts also needs to account for wider hips and smaller waists, so more panels generally mean a better ﬁt.

These Gore Xenon III shorts have a wide and ﬂat waistband around the front, which reduces any digging in when leaning forward on the bike.

The pad is close ﬁtting and comfortable on long rides, and the wide leg grippers effectively stop the fabric riding up when pedalling.
