The Totem takes the scale of singlecrown forks to a new level. Like the Marzocchi 66, this tall, very heavy fork is all about the downhill not the climb - although there is a £749.99 2-Step version for dropping ride height, and a 200g lighter Solo Air for £699.99. It takes a while to feel smooth, and never gets to Marzocchi levels of small bump fluidity, but it sucks up ripples or rocks with very balanced control at all speeds.

The new Mission Control system adds external adjustment of high- and low-speed compression damping and Floodgate platform control. Huge 40mm stanchions and 'power bulged' lowers make it the stiffest fork here in optional 1.5in steerer form, and it's a direct post mount fit for 203mm brakes.

Guy started filling his brain with cycle stats and steaming up bike shop windows back in 1980. He worked the other side of those windows from '89 while getting a degree in “describing broken things covered in mud" (archaeology). Dug historical holes in the ground through the early '90s, then became a pro bike tester in '97. Guy has ridden thousands of bikes and even more components the world over since then and can remember them all in vivid, haunting detail. Can't remember where the car keys are, though.
