Crank Brothers Mallet 1 Pedals | $125.98
BikeRadar verdict
"A fine clip platform pedal with better bearing life than other Cranks"
This is the second generation of the clipless platform Mallet and it has been well received by riders who appreciate the ‘always ready’ four-sided sprung jaw concept that is Crank’s big selling point.
The body of the pedal is somewhere between the Time Z-control and the Shimano DX in size and can be easily spotted and hit by flailing feet, even when you’re concentrating on not crashing.
As with all Crank Brothers pedals, there’s no spring tension adjustment on the Mallet and therefore you’ll either love the pre-set light action feel, or loathe it.
We have had issues with some shoes – particularly those with deep cleat pockets needing the soles to be trimmed a little to clear the pedal body, as occasionally there’s contact which can lead to difficulty in entry/exit and float.
However, of all the Crank Brothers pedals, the Mallets are the model we have had fewest issues with in relation to bearings and sealing.
