NS Bikes Magneto stem review£70.00

Complex stem design

BikeRadar score2.5/5

The Magneto’s wedge design requires a bit of patience to understand and time to fit. This is because it separates the stem into two main pieces, a two-part wedge mechanism and four main bolts, which all need to be put together and torqued up in a set order.

Fitting, then, isn’t the work of five easy minutes. But once it’s on your bike you’ve no doubt that your bar is going to stay put.

The rear of the stem is neatly rounded off to save your knees getting a whack, with no sharp steerer clamp bolts sticking out. On the trail the Magneto is stiff and creak free. The integrated stem cap may be an issue for some though – it necessitates cutting your fork steerer in order to achieve your perfect bar height, not just stacking a couple of spacers up top. If you’re a fit-and-forget kind of rider who seldom changes their setup that’s fine, but otherwise it’s a big commitment.
