Spotted: prototype ENVE carbon mountain fork

New carbon fork has integrated fender, adjustable offset

Mounted to several custom 29ers at this year’s North American Handmade Bicycle Show was a new rigid mountain bike fork from carbon component manufacturer ENVE Composites.

ENVE is being tight-lipped about some of the details of this yet-to-be-released fork, though many of the features are clearly evident.

This full carbon fork uses a tapered steerer and is designed for 29ers. It will also clear a 3in-wide 29+ tire with room to spare.

Much like ENVE’s Cross Disc fork, the rigid mountain fork has post mounts for the front brake and uses an integrated brake line clip on the left fork leg. ENVE has also developed a trick-looking integrated clip-on fender that doubles as the hose clamp for the front brake.

The fork uses a 15mm thru-axle with a twist: it uses a chip-style thru-axle system that allows the rider to adjust the fork’s offset. An ENVE spokesperson did confirm that flipping the orientation of the aluminum axle inserts within the fork legs will change offset from 44mm to 52mm.

According to ENVE, the mountain fork is still in the prototyping stages, as such, pricing, weight and other specification are not yet finalized. Expect to see more details at Sea Otter.
