The 2016 Cycle Show is coming to the NEC this month

New bikes, celebs, a competition and sneaky discounts at this year's show

With the dust having only just settled from the marathon of product releases and carbohydrate consumption that is Eurobike, you could be forgiven for wondering what could possibly come next from ‘the industry’.

But as always, the wheels of change roll forward with the ease of a well adjusted hub and BikeRadar will be attending this year's Cycle Show in Birmingham, prowling the cavernous halls of the NEC to bring you the latest and hottest gossip from the cycling industry at large.

Running from the 23rd-25th September, the Cycle Show is by far the biggest cycling trade event in the UK and with 283 different exhibitors hawking their wares this year, we’re expecting to see a lot of new and exciting kit.

We also have a super sneaky offer for BikeRadar readers attending the show. Read on to find out more.

Unless you’ve been living under a particularly large rock for the past few years, you will have undoubtedly noticed the huge increase in the popularity of e-bikes globally. The interest is so great that it is now the fastest growing sector for bike sales in the UK.

Pretty much every manufacturer is jumping onto the electrically assisted bandwagon and there will be over 20 brands showing over 100 different bikes at the Cycle Show’s dedicated ‘e-bike village’ this year.

Presented by Shimano to showcase its new STEPS e-bike groupset, the village will feature an 800m test loop which will include a ‘ramp section’. Whilst we’ll be sure to try out some of the bikes on offer, we’ll try to resist the temptation to throw down some cool stunts here.

As electric assist technology has matured, e-bikes have become increasingly efficient, light and capable and we’re really excited to see what new kit will be announced at this years show.

New releases from Eurobike absentees?

Hopefully we won't see anything as Euro as this announced at the Cycle Show

Whyte, Trek and Pinarello were all conspicuous by their absence from this year’s Eurobike show, but will all be exhibiting at this year’s Cycle Show.

Although most manufacturers are likely to keep any big releases that weren’t announced in Friedrichshafen saved for Interbike (which we will also be covering), we’ll still be keeping our eyes peeled for any sneaky peeks at new kit.

We’re also hoping that a good showing from smaller British bike brands such as Shand, Vaaru and The Light Blue may make for some tasty, homegrown viewing which we’ll be sure to share.
