Mondraker Podium Carbon – First look
Spanish bike brand Mondraker have just released shots of their latest creation, the revamped Podium Carbon cross-country race bike, which is set to land as early as this autumn.
The big talking point with the new Podium is its integrated stem design. Thanks to an eccentric aluminium insert, the stem can be turned +/- 5mm on both the X and Y axes, and Mondraker’s new IST system prevents it from damaging the frame in the event of a crash.
Integrating the stem allows for a lower and, according to Mondraker, stronger front end. Weight has been reduced too, with a size large painted frame coming in at just under 1kg. This is largely thanks to a new proprietary carbon fibre layup process which helps increase stiffness over the previous model too.
As we’ve come to expect from Mondraker, the details are all present and correct as well, with internal cable routing, a BB30 bottom bracket and their own Stealth post-mount brake mounts.
The brand's top designer, Cesar Rojo (the man behind their boundary-pushing Summum downhill bike), claims to have referenced influential architect Mies Van Der Rohe with his ‘less is more’ approach for the new Podium Carbon. Prices and specs are still to be confirmed.

If it rides as well as it looks, it'll be superb.

Sure looks sleek for an XC racer! I wouldn't want my knees digging into those stem tho... I wonder if the designer thought of that.
