Olympic champ backs first Pedal It Pink event

Women's ride in aid of breast cancer research

A huge women-only ride will be held in the UK in the spring to raise funds for breast cancer research. The first Pedal it Pink event will take place at Sefton Park in Liverpool on Sunday, 19 April.

Organised by Breast Cancer Campaign, it will have routes for all abilities, ranging from a half (13.1 miles) or full marathon (26.2 miles) to a 5km family lap. All rides will take place within the park, so they will be traffic-free. You can take your own bike or hire one at the event.

Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton is an ambassador for Pedal it Pink. She said: “After winning gold in the sprint cycling event in Beijing this summer, I’m  thrilled to lead Breast Cancer Campaign’s very first Pedal it Pink. It’ll be really exciting to see hundreds of women getting on their bikes to help beat breast cancer, so I really hope you can join us on 19 April in Sefton Park. I know it’ll be lots of fun and together we can make a difference.”

Money raised by Pedal it Pink will help Breast Cancer Campaign to fund innovative world-class research throughout the UK to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.

Entries go live on Tuesday, 6 January but you can register now at www.breastcancercampaign.org. For more information, email pedalitpink@breastcancercampaign.org or call 020 7749 3700.
