Topshop launch cycle accessories for girls

By Matthew Cole

UK retailers Topshop are today launching a cycling-specific accessory line aimed at young women.

The range by fashion company Cyclodelic aims to add a bit of style to cycle clothing for girls. It is only on sale at the firm's Oxford Street Branch.

The kit includes a £105 pannier bag which doubles as a handbag with hidden Klik Fix mechanism and internal pockets for A4 documents, valuables and tools.

The £55 saddle bag is designed to hold cycling essentials like tools plus can be detached easily for nights out.

The £85 'Bra bag' has an 'anti swing' shape to prevent movement while riding and apparently you can fits a pair of heels in it. Other items in the range include a scarf, cycling hat, visors and belt with integrated mini D-lock holder.

Amy Fleuriot, of Cyclodelic, told BikeRadar: “We don't believe you have to sacrifice style to get in the saddle. Whether it be a short commute or tour across foreign lands we fuse fashion and function with thousands of miles of pedalling experience to create our fun, adaptable products to brighten your journey.”

Cyclodelic worked with teenagers on Sustrans’ Fashion2Ride Project for two years and found that teenage girls were put off by the image of cycling.

Ankle cuff: ankle cuff

Jewel-encrusted 'ankle cuffs' (trouser clips) can be worn on the wrist as a fashion accessory

“Hopefully Cyclodelic's cycling accessories range in Topshop will help dispel some of the notions that cycling always has to involve body-hugging Lycra or high-visibility builders' vests,” Fleuriot added. The company are due to launch a clothing range at the end of the summer.

We’re going to get some samples of the new accessories in as soon as possible, but in the meantime we’d love to hear your thoughts on the range, and whether you think this will encourage more women to get on their bikes. Will you be buying any of it?

  • Oh why oh why can't I see beauties like these on my way to work.....sigh!

LOL! Yeah, that is a pretty good trackstand!

  • Interesting... Just noticed the Gold & Green bike... Which appears in Aprils Zest magazine on page 27. Belongs to the Cyclodelic clothing designer Amy Fleuriot!

Scratch built fixie, note the rear mudguard, constructed from used plastic bottles.

  • softlad -

"that's a pretty good trackstand she's doing in pic 7...."

Hey, softlad, it's a photograph, not a video. How can you tell that it's a good track stand? It wouldn't move even if she fell off the bike in the very next split second. D'oh!

Anyway, wrt the clothing - anything that would persuade the fashion concious ladies that cycling could be for them should be welcomed. I hope they've considered the issue of the comfort at contact points as well as is done in normal cycle clothing.

  • And that Topshop have also considered a winter range to keep fairweather cyclists on the road.

  • "How can you tell that it's a good track stand?"

I'm assured the models practised for hours, and this *is* a good track stand...

  • Nice to see some talent on here ;)

  • Let's get more people cycling!

This can only be a good thing...

  • Topshop selling cycling gear? that is regretable but inevitable.

  • Cycle or DRUNK accessories???

Picture #4 “Bag” – is safety no more first?

What Nice Girls drinking from such specific bottle and glasses?

How Topshop can care quality about if they can not care about safety?

Interesting to get answers from Topshop and BikeRadar.

P.S. There are also very rare pictures at BikeRadar with cyclists without helmets. Is it girls, alcohol or Topshop influence?
