The UK is gearing up for a festival of cycling this summer. Three global events, the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France and the Commonwealth Games, will call Great Britain home in 2014. With the all-new Mazda3, we've explored Belfast, which will host the Giro d’Italia’s grande partenza next month. Following on our travels take us to stunning Yorkshire, which will host the world’s most spectacular free sporting event this year: the 101st Tour de France.

In case you aren’t following all the Summer of Cycling articles on BikeRadar’s all-new Mazda3 channel, you probably aren’t aware that Mazda has developed SKYACTIV Technology, with the aim of offering every customer outstanding environmental and safety performance, without sacrificing the brand’s renowned driving pleasure. This innovative range of technologies is the result of an uncompromising approach to improving the efficiency of the base components that dictate the fundamental performance of the car, such as the engine, chassis and transmission, while reducing vehicle weight, ensuring the all-new Mazda3 is perfectly suited to assisting cyclists on whatever challenge lies ahead of them this summer.

In this part of the Summer of Cycling, Yorkshire has promised to host the biggest grand départ in Tour de France history and estimated spectator figures are certainly pointing in the right direction. More than two million people are expected to line route of stages 1 and 2 of the race when it travels from Leeds to Harrogate and York to Sheffield on 5 and 6 July.

And if you want to hear race route analysis from ex-pro Malcolm Elliott, about farmers painting sheep maillot jaune yellow to celebrate the race, and see a fantastic polka dot bike made by a Bradford frame builder Pennine Cycles, check out our video below. It’s going to be the mother of all cycling parties in Yorkshire this July and we can’t wait.
