FSA Vision Metron carbon road cockpit - first look

Plus Vision Metro carbon road wheels at Taipei Show

Once pigeonholed as solely a TT/tri brand, FSA's Vision label is now expanding into the road racing realm with a new Metron carbon fiber cockpit plus six new aero carbon wheels – including two with disc brake mounts.

The new Vision Metron carbon drop bar is somewhat reminiscent of FSA's old K-Wing, including a flattened and raised top section, a slight indentation just behind the hoods, and a set of ergonomic drops. The shape has evolved since then, though, with a 10-degree forward cant on the tops plus a subtle outward kink on the drops just below the hoods, to provide a more natural wrist angle in both positions.

Vision will offer the new Metron bar in four sizes, from 38-44cm wide, all with 80mm of reach, 125mm of drop, 31.8mm bar clamps, and Di2/EPS-compatible internal routing. Claimed weight is right around 200g and the suggested retail price will be US$260-280/£220/€300 (including VAT where applicable) when it becomes available in April.

The new Metron bar will be accompanied by a new carbon fiber stem and seatpost, although aside from revised graphics they're identical to the FSA K-Force versions.

New Metron road wheelsets with disc-compatible options

Also coming from Vision are several new carbon road wheelsets, all built with bladed stainless steel spokes and the company's latest 11-speed compatible P.R.A. hub designs with adjustable preload and hybrid ceramic cartridge bearings.

The 55mm-deep Metron 55 will be offered in both tubular and full carbon clincher varieties, both with broad aero profiles measuring 24-25mm across at their widest points (internal width on the clincher is 17mm). Claimed weight for the tubular is 1,260g per pair, while the clinchers are particularly impressive at 1,295g per pair.

Moving even further down the weight scale are the new 40mm-deep Metron 40 models, which use similarly bulbous aero profiles. Claimed weight for the tubular version is just 1,160g per set, with the clinchers tacking on another 35g.

In yet another sign of the coming wave of road disc brakes, there will even be Metron 40 Disc variants for use with six-bolt rotors.

Retail price for the new wheels is around US$2,000/£1,600/€1,900 (including VAT where applicable).
