The latest pro gear from the biggest bike race in the world
The 104th edition of the Tour de France took riders from Düsseldorf, Germany to Paris, and BikeRadar was there to check out all the bikes and gear.
One of the big stories this year was disc brakes. Cannondale-Drapac's Alberto Bettiol kicked off the Tour with a historic disc-brake first, which was followed up by Marcel Kittel winning five road stages on his Specialized S-Works Venge Disc. We took a close look at his bike. Oh, and we spied an unreleased Giant Propel Disc, the first iteration of a disc-brake aero bike from the bicycle giant.
We found some new and unreleased helmets, some vortex-generating skinsuit patches, and a quick-release Plan B for BMC.
We have published features on various pros' bikes and what makes them special, such as the trigger-placement shifters on Mark Cavendish's Cervélo S5 with its outlandishly light paint, the prototype 58t chainring and 1x drivetrain on Tony Martin's Canyon Speedmax, and Alberto Contador's mix of brand new and tried-and-true components on his 640g Trek Emonda.
