Cookbook offers alternatives to store-bought bars and gels

Following up on the their Feed Zone Cookbook, chef Biju Thomas and Dr. Allen Lim just released Feed Zone Portables, which has 75 new recipes for portable food for cyclists.

The 288-page book is available for £18 in the UK through bookstores, bike shops and www.Cordee.co.uk, and is available in the US for $25.

Dr. Lim, who also runs the hydration company Skratch, worked and traveled with pro cyclists for a number of years and developed a number of recipes for on-the-bike food that was fresh and tasty but still practical for training and racing

Feed Zone Portables has full-color photographs of every recipe plus nutritional information and tips on how particular ingredients can benefit cyclists.

Dr. Lim also spells outs how much he believes riders need to eat and drink at different exercise intensities.

Feed Zone Portables offers a number of rice cake recipes

More than 50 of the recipes are gluten-free, and most are vegetarian. All are designed for making quickly, and eating on the bike. A few examples: Rice Cakes, Two-Bite Pies, Griddle Cakes, Waffles, Baked Eggs, Sticky Bites, Rice Balls, Ride Sandwiches, Baked Cakes and Cookies.
