The trend towards kids' first bikes not having any pedals is growing fast. The idea that children find their balance better through 'scooting' than lolloping from side to side on stabilisers has been strong in countries like Germany for years, through brands such as Like-a-bike. The folks at Kiddimoto, as the name suggests, thought a motorcycle inspired frame shape would be fun, and machined their wooden (ply) frame to take the shape of a Yamaha R6.
The bike is pretty similar in all respects to others of this genre, with limited steering lock to avoid having the bar swing full circle. It's immediately attractive to kids, and all got on and rode instinctively from the outset. Areas we didn't like too much were the solid plastic wheels which didn't give a particularly smooth ride (next to the tester's own Islabike Rothan) and the fixed seat height, which doesn't allow for any adjustment. It would be nice to be able to increase seat height - reducing the weight on the rider's feet and increasing the need to balance as the rider becomes more skilled.
