BikeRadar’s Bike of the Year 2018 awards
For the last few months BikeRadar staff have been hard at work testing this year’s most important road and mountain bikes to bring you the industry’s most coveted bike awards.
No fewer than 75 key road and mountain bike models have been tested for Bike of the Year, which saw BikeRadar’s testers travel to picturesque San Remo, Italy for its dreamy mountain passes and world-renowned technical singletrack.
MBUK brought along a selection of 2018’s hottest trail and enduro bikes, while Cycling Plus selected a wide range of road models for the test. For the women’s categories, we turned to BikeRadar’s women’s editor Aoife Glass.
Multiple gruelling days in the saddle were followed by some heated discussions between the judges before the verdicts were finally reached. It’s been a mammoth process, but now the results are in!
2018 Road Bike of the Year: Giant Advanced TCR 2
Our annual search for the best road bike is over, and the Giant Advanced TCR 2 has come out on top. Not only did it prove to be the best bike under £2,000, it also impressed us more than any other bike in the other price groups.
Road Bike of the Year sub-£1,000 winner: Rose Pro SL 105
The Rose Pro SL 105 emerged the winner of our sub-£1,000 category after beating tough competition from Canyon and Ribble. Its lightweight frame, enviable kit and superb handling were enough to crown this direct sale bike the king of our lowest price category.
Road Bike of the Year £2,000+ category winner: Trek Émonda SL 6 Pro
Trek has taken the overall win in our higher price category with its Émonda SL 6 Pro. The Émonda's amazing handling, smooth ride and smart spec make this bike a truly great all-rounder and one that's worthy of this award.
2018 Trail Bike of the Year: YT Jeffsy 29 CF
Our annual search for the best road/trail/enduro bike is over, and the YT Jeffsy 29 CF has come out on top. Aside from offering incredible value for money, it's also the most fun bike we've ridden in years.
2018 Enduro Bike of the Year: Canyon Torque CF 8.0
Canyon has breathed new life into the Torque for 2018 and the result is a bike that was good enough to take the hotly contested Enduro Bike of the Year title. This well-balanced, big hitting trail bike is a total monster when pointed downhill and had our testers wanting little more than to ride it over and over and over again.
2018 Women's Road Bike of the Year: Trek Domane SL 6 Disc Women's
The Trek Domane SL 6 Disc Women's scored a full five stars, beating seven strong competitors for the title of 2018 Women's Road Bike of the Year. Women's editor Aoife Glass said the Domane offered "the perfect blend of comfort, performance and versatility."
2018 Women's Trail Bike of the Year: Juliana Joplin R
Playful, capable beyond its travel, stable and a whole lot of fun, the Juliana Joplin R was a clear choice for the 2018 Women's Trail Bike of the Year. "It’s composed yet fun, faster than you think, as smooth as you like, though with enough feedback to feel the trail, climbs brilliantly and descends amazingly," says women's editor Aoife Glass.
