The Adventure Double Shot is very handsome, very affordable and very blue

Well equipped three-speed commuter costs just £449

This charming and very affordable blue commuter, the Adventure Double Shot, caught our eye this week at IceBike 2018, the annual in-house trade show from distributor Madison.

The bike is built around a three-speed Shimano Nexus internal gear hub, a nice silver crankset with a chain guard and cantilever brakes.

Canti’s may seem like an odd choice in 2018, with discs becoming almost ubiquitous on commuter bikes, but if set up correctly they’ll perform well enough and with great clearances too.

The finishing kit definitely screams comfort rather than performance — the north road style bars, plush riveted saddle and chunky leatherette grips are about as plush as contact points get, and the the chunky 35mm wide tyres should go some way to smoothing out any road buzz.

We didn’t have scales to hand, but using a calibrated elbow we can confirm that the steel bike weighs ‘not too much’.

The Double Shot is available for just £449, and with the addition of some mudguards this should make an ideal and very affordable year-round commuter.
