As the sister event to America’s legendary Sea Otter Classic, Sea Otter Europe's inaugural show in June this year sure had a lot to live up to. Thankfully, the show’s debut in Girona in June was such a success that we’re sure to be back next year.
Here are five reasons to add it to your calendar:
1. Epic retro racing
One of the show’s most unique attractions was its MTB classic sportive.
Strictly for pre-1995 bicycles only, the event saw riders race elbow to elbow on some of the sport’s most legendary machines while their period kit makes for a truly time-warped experience.
2. A chance to ride the bike of your dreams
23 brands offered 300 bikes to test at Sea Otter Europe 2017, meaning attendees were able to try some of the world’s finest bikes on challenging routes and obstacles without so much as spending a penny.
3. The latest and greatest products on show
Products from 300 exhibitors spanned 20,000 square metres of expo space at this year’s event, meaning visitors were able to get up close and personal with the latest and greatest bikes and kit.
4. It’s in beautiful Girona
Last but definitely not least, Sea Otter Europe takes place in beautiful Girona, Spain, meaning attendees get to bask in the beauty of Spain’s north-eastern Catalonia region.
Warm weather, exceptional dining and plenty of tourist stops mean you’ll easily be able to make a wholesome holiday from your visit.
Details of Sea Otter Europe 2018 are set to be confirmed in September, so stay tuned for more.
5. Meet the pros
Sea Otter 2017 brought a host of world-class riders to Girona.
The festival’s last race was the final of the elite category Biking Point International Catalan Cup. Spectators watched in awe as current world number two cross-country mountain biker David Valero took the win among a star-studded field.
