The Bryton Rider 650 features a full-colour 2.8in colour touchscreen with a built-in ambient light sensor to extend battery performance – for less than half the price of Garmin’s Edge 550.
Control can be touchscreen-only or using the five buttons on its flanks, a smart feature for when riding with gloves or in the rain.
With Ant+ and Bluetooth connectivity, the Rider 650 will connect to power meters, smart lights, radars, and Shimano Di2 and SRAM AXS drivetrains. The ANT+ connection is FE-C compliant, so you can use the Bryton for smart trainer control, too.
The Rider 650 is priced at £139.99 / $169.95 / €169.95.
Cycling-dynamics ready

The 650 also includes cycling dynamics analysis tools, so when paired with your power meter, it’ll offer full dynamic data recording and display information such as ride position, power distribution PCO, and left-right balance.
Further connectivity comes via auto-sync with Strava, TrainingPeaks, Komoot and Ride with GPS, along with Bryton’s Active App.
Navigation and hill-climbing aid

Navigation uses OpenStreetMap. It even comes with a feature to rival Hammerhead's Karoo Climber and Garmin ClimbPro, called ClimbChallenge. This detects upcoming ascents in pre-loaded routes and provides a full-colour climb graph with gradient segments, alongside remaining distance and ascent.
However, it doesn't auto-detect climbs like Garmin and Hammerhead's latest models – you'll have to step up to Bryton's premium S-Series for that.
Battery life is claimed to be a huge 33 hours.

If the 650 is a bit rich for your budget, Bryton also has the new Rider 550, which shares the same compact case, with a full-colour 2.8in screen and a claimed 37-hour battery life.
The 550 omits the cycling dynamics data set, but retains all the other 650 features for €129.95 / £129.99 / $N/A.
