Pro cycling legend Mario Cipollini will be among the hundreds of cyclists riding out on the Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia Miami in Florida Nov. 11.

Although today known in part for his flamboyant personality, Cipollini was a tremendous rider in his time, winning a record 42 stages of the Giro d’Italia, as well as 12 stages of the Tour de France, a World Road Cycling Championship, a Milan-San Remo, three editions of Gent-Wevelgem and more as part of his 189 total victories.

“It has always been a unique experience for me to participate in the Tour of Italy, the Giro,” Cipollini said. "It has been the greatest honor to become the rider who has won more stages than anyone! I look forward to participating in this Gran Fondo, which is the perfect combination of cycling and flavor of the 'Made in Italy' brand. It is really exciting to be an ambassador, in a sense, of the Giro in a fascinating place like Miami: definitely a must.”

Riders will have a chance to get autographs and pictures with Cipollini on Saturday, November 10 at the event’s expo.

The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia Miami offers three routes (25, 55 and 101 miles), and is sponsored by a number of Italian brands such as Pinarello, Vittoria, FSA, Selle Italia, Limar and Santini.

Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia will also give two lucky participants a special trip to a weekend at the 2013 Giro d'Italia as VIP guests.
