Devon ride aims to capture new and occasional female riders

A women’s only sportive for new or occasional riders has been launched – and the event is already half full. The Dartmoor Debutante, organised by the Mid Devon Cycling Club, will take place on the same day as the sold out Dartmoor Classic on 24 June.

The 34-mile (55km) loop uses a section of traffic-free cycle lane and returns to the event HQ, Newton Abbot Racecourse, via the picturesque Teign Valley.

Becky Kelly, of the organising committee, said: “We hope this new addition to the sportive calendar will encourage women who already cycle a bit to stretch themselves and have a go. The route has a couple of fairly demanding climbs, but is within the reach of occasional cyclists.”

The Dartmoor Debutante has a small field of 200, and will share the same facilities as the Dartmoor Classic. Entry costs £15. Visit the Dartmoor Classic website for details.
