The TALAS takes the Float architecture and adds a three-step travel adjust system to toggle between 100, 120 and 140mm.
The advantage of this stepped system over wind down setups - such as U-Turn or ATA - is that you can click it down really quickly at the foot of climbs or steep descents. The disadvantage though, is that it's obviously not as fi nely adjustable as incremental adjusters.
The TALAS forks we've tried are also slightly clunkier in action to the Float forks, particularly over small bumps or sudden sharp hits. Winding them down to 120mm smooths them out noticeably though, and also makes the fork feel much tighter and less fl exy. In other words, they're a great choice for a bike that feels right with a 5in/120mm fork on, but you want the instant switch option of a shorter climbing/racing fork or a longer straightline descending fork.
The RLC damping gives full control of rebound, compression and lockout threshold, which can be set low enough to provide 'platform' stability to match rear shocks. It's not cheap but new pricing drops the cost by an impressive £60, while the R version is £110 less.
